RGU witness yet another violence
ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The lone central university of the state, Rajiv Gandhi University which is turning into a battleground of sorts witnessed yet another round of violence today when three vehicles including two officials vehicles of the Vice Chancellor was damaged. The students who are on agitation since yesterday to press for their 13 points demand resorted to violence and damaged the cars parked at the residence of the VC and a bus.
SP, Capital Complex Hibu Tamang who arrived at the scene after the incidence to meet the leaders of the union said that students have assured not to resort to violence but have demanded that their demands be met.
The demands include construction of multipurpose students activity centre, increase in numbers of buses, class room infrastructure, 95% reservation for Grade C and D posts to tribals, construction of university court, renaming of university to Arunachal University among others. He further said that security has been increased at the campus in wake of violence.
Meanwhile RGU authorities have said “violence and damaging of public property is condemnable and uncalled for from so called learned university students. The university appeals to the students’ body not to resort to any type of violence in future as this will be detrimental to the academic atmosphere, peace and security in the campus. The University community feels that all problems can be resolved through constructive dialogues”.
It said that the “unfortunate incident happened when the Vice Chancellor along with his Finance Officer was on his way to Delhi to attend an important budgetary meeting of all Central University Vice Chancellors at UGC, New Delhi”. The schedule of the meeting was informed during the meeting held on March 3 to discuss the charter of demands submitted by the students’ body, it said.
It further added that damages were inflicted on the official cars of the VC in presence of his wife.
AAPSU President Takam Tatung has called for intervention of state govt to solve the current imbroglio at the Rajiv Gandhi Central University. While calling for a logical conclusion to the problems, he said that state government should not be mute spectator to the happenings at the university.
The University had earlier witnessed assault on its VC at the University campus on Jan 25. The case is still under investigation.

Later sharing his experiences and highlighting on eye problems in the State, Dr. Doye informed that regular camps are organized at remote places, like Tuting, Mechuka, Manigong, Hayuliang and other places. Spectacles, if necessary are provided on the spot or cases are referred outside for further treatment.

Meanwhile All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has said that before tabling the Arunachal Pradesh Education Bill in the forthcoming legislative assembly session, there be consultations with the stakeholders and policy makers.
Its general secretary Tujum Poyom has said that before the tabling of the bill there be thorough discussion with the students’ union, intellectual and educationists to avoid any future repercussions.
He further informed that Arunachal Education Bill is a replica of Karnataka Education Bill with only slight modifications. He said that Karnataka may have the best of education infrastructure and systems but when compared to Arunachal, there is vast difference in terms of target audience. The Union suggested that inputs should be taken from the officers of Education department too.

Arunachali boy likely to vie in 5th Indian Idol
ITANAGAR, Mar 9: For the first time in the history of Arunachal Pradesh, an Arunachalee boy has qualified for final audition test for the 5th Indian Idol 2010.
According to a release issued by Kargu Kardi Welfare Society, Jeli Kayi, son of Taje Kayi from Liromoba circle of West Siang has successfully crossed the first hurdle in Kolkata round of audition test held on March five last. The final audition test would be held in Mumbai on March 23 next.
While wishing Jeli all the success, the society appealed to the state government and all the well wishers to extend help in any form and encourage the budding singer to realize his dream.

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Women of Pistana circle in Lower Subansiri gathered at Deed at an impressive function to mark the International Women Day yesterday. An initiative of Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, Pistana Anchal Samity and district administration, the day witnessed coming together of people from all walks of life.
To mark the day, women achievers were felicitated which included social worker Bini Yanga, Oncologist Adisi Kri and gynecologist Dr Bengia Mala, chairperson of Nyishi Nyiem Achem Higio Aruni and Member Secretary Arunachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission Mamta Riba.
Minister UD and PWD Nabum Tuki who was the chief guest of the celebration said that equal rights were essential for equitable society. He further said that Panchayat leaders need to be more aware and responsible towards the development sector while adding that successful implementation of social schemes rest on the people of the area.
MLA and chairman APEDA Likha Saaya said that sharing of responsibility was necessary for a successful society and called on all to work for the society unconditionally.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Subansiri Sadhana Deori appealed all to work for the interest of the society and stressed on quality education. She further said that cooperation was needed to ensure development in the area. She also decried instances of child marriages.

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Altogether 38 patients were operated upon for various eye ailments in an eye camp organized by Upper Subansiri District Blindness Control Society under national programme for control of blindness (NPCB) at Dumporijo Community Health Centre (CHC) from March 3 to 7 last.
Over 700 patients were registered in the camp and 36 were operated upon for cataract by using modern satureless method while operations for 8 others were carried out for various eye ailments.
Dr. KK Deb, senior eye specialist and state programme officer NPCB and Dr. D Grayu, eye specialist, Ziro along with paramedical team from NPCB headquarter and Upper Subansiri district conducted the camp.
