RGU witness yet another violence

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The lone central university of the state, Rajiv Gandhi University which is turning into a battleground of sorts witnessed yet another round of violence today when three vehicles including  two officials vehicles of the Vice Chancellor was damaged. The students who are on agitation since yesterday to press for their 13 points demand resorted to violence and damaged the cars parked at the residence of the VC and a bus.

SP, Capital Complex Hibu Tamang who arrived at the scene after the incidence to meet the leaders of the union said that students have assured not to resort to violence but have demanded that their demands be met.

The demands include construction of multipurpose students activity centre, increase in numbers of buses, class room infrastructure, 95% reservation for Grade C and D posts to tribals, construction of university court, renaming of university to Arunachal University among others.  He further said that security has been increased at the campus in wake of violence.

Meanwhile RGU authorities have said “violence and damaging of public property is condemnable and uncalled for from so called learned university students. The university appeals to the students’ body not to resort to any type of violence in future as this will be detrimental to the academic atmosphere, peace and security in the campus. The University community feels that all problems can be resolved through constructive dialogues”.

It said that the “unfortunate incident happened when the Vice Chancellor along with his Finance Officer was on his way to Delhi to attend an important budgetary meeting of all Central University Vice Chancellors at UGC, New Delhi”. The schedule of the meeting was informed during the meeting held on March 3 to discuss the charter of demands submitted by the students’ body, it said.

It further added that damages were inflicted on the official cars of the VC in presence of his wife.

AAPSU President Takam Tatung has called for intervention of state govt to solve the current imbroglio at the Rajiv Gandhi Central University. While calling for a logical conclusion to the problems, he said that state government should not be mute spectator to the happenings at the university.

The University had earlier witnessed assault on its VC at the University campus on Jan 25. The case is still under investigation.

 

Doctors deserve accolade: First Lady

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The doctors deserve healthy appreciation from every section of the people as they are rendering selfless jobs for the people and contributing  towards healthy society, said State First Lady Anupama Singh, who visited the Raj Bhavan Health Centre, Itanagar to see the one-day ‘Special Health Check up’ programme conducted by senior doctors from General Hospital, Naharlagun at the center.

Senior Eye Specialist Dr. R. Doye, Head of Department (Orthopedics) and Senior Dental Surgeon Dr. P.K. Chutiya, Head of Department (Dental) from General Hospital, Naharlagun are conducting the progr-amme.  Interacting with the patients, who had turned up for the special programme, State First Lady suggested for health awareness camp on personal hygiene and eye care amongst targeted section of people. She also suggested for taking up with Rotary Club for mobile dental clinic.

Later sharing his experiences and highlighting on eye problems in the State, Dr. Doye informed that regular camps are organized at remote places, like Tuting, Mechuka, Manigong, Hayuliang and other places. Spectacles, if necessary are provided on the spot or cases are referred outside for further treatment.

Dr. Doye, who will be leaving tomorrow for an eye camp at Yingkiong called for better infrastructure for eye treatment in the State. We are trying our best for social awareness on health care, he added.

In-charge of the Raj Bhavan Health Centre, Dr. (Mrs.) T.Kampu, SMO(SG) informed that large number of patients from all walks of life turned up for the free health check up.

It may be mentioned here that Raj Bhavan Health Centre, Itanagar, which caters patients from ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘P’ sectors, was inaugurated by Lopa Pradhan, wife of Former Governor R.D. Pradhan in June 25, 1988. PRO to CM

 

AIMSU serves 48 hours ultimatum

ROING, Mar 9: The All Idu-Mishmi Student Union (AIMSU) has expressed serious concern over the  alleged dilly-delaying tactics of the District Administration in pursuing  the Tinsukia DC to apprehend the criminals involved in kidnapping case of  Feb 2 last.  

Reminding the assurance given by the district administration to nab the kidnappers,  AIMSU in a letter   to  administration resented that after three week of assurance no punitive action  was being taken.

The letter also urged the administration to take bold step to curb criminal activities in Assam-Arunachal boundary area.

Meanwhile, the AIMSU served 48 hours ultimatum to nab the offenders and compensate the victim. The union said that if the administration fails to  meet the ultimatum, it will take  harsh step and take its own course of action.  A local businessman was taken hostage at Dholla under Tinsukia district (Assam) for two days and was later released on payment of a ransom of Rs 5. 25 Lakh.

 

Siram calls for meeting on Education Bill; AAPSU resent tabling of bill in a hurry

ITANAGAR, Mar  9: Education Minister Bosiram Siram has called for consultative meeting cum open discussion on the proposed Arunachal Pradesh Education Bill-2010. All elected representatives are expected to take part in the meeting. He has further convened a meeting of the students Union comprising of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, All Nyishi Students Union and Rajiv Gandhi Students Union. Responding to a query on the issues being taken up by the AAPSU, Education Minster Bosiram Siram has said that bill will be tabled during the upcoming session.

Meanwhile All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has said that before tabling the Arunachal Pradesh Education Bill in the forthcoming legislative assembly session, there be consultations with the stakeholders and policy makers.

Its general secretary Tujum Poyom has said that before the tabling of the bill there be thorough discussion with the students’ union, intellectual and educationists to avoid any future repercussions.

He further informed that Arunachal Education Bill is a replica of Karnataka Education Bill with only slight modifications. He said that Karnataka may have the best of education infrastructure and systems but when compared to Arunachal, there is vast difference in terms of target audience. The Union suggested that inputs should be taken from the officers of Education department too.

 

19 Arunachali among 481 boys take oath to serve the nation

TEZU, Mar 9: 481 recruits GD cadre including 19 Aarunachali boys took oath to serve the nation in a colourful passing out ceremony at 44 Bn. ITBP Lohitpur today.

Speaking on the occasion Inspector General Eastern Frontier of ITBP Daljeet Singh urged them to be a good combat man as well as a good and responsible citizen of the country & society.

IG disclosed that ITBP is rendering their sincere and dedicated services in various parts of the country in order to maintain law and order as well as guarding the nation’s border. New challenges are coming to ITBP to ensure internal security of the country and ITBP is one of the forefront agencies to face the challenges, said Singh.  Earlier, R.K D Singh, Dy. I.G , Sector Head Quarters, Tezpur welcomed all dignitaries arrived at the attestation & passing out ceremony and congratulated all the trainees and their instructors for imparting quality training despite of various hurdles.

Arunachali boy likely  to vie in 5th Indian Idol

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: For the first time in the history of Arunachal Pradesh, an Arunachalee boy has qualified for final audition test for the 5th Indian Idol 2010.

According to a release issued by Kargu Kardi Welfare Society, Jeli Kayi, son of Taje Kayi from Liromoba circle of West Siang has successfully crossed the first hurdle in Kolkata round of audition test held on March five last. The final audition test would be held in Mumbai on March 23 next.

While wishing Jeli all the success, the society appealed to the state government and all the well wishers to extend help in any form and encourage the budding singer to realize his dream.

 

NSS at work

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: NSS units of Dera Natung government college, Itanagar recently conducted special camping programme at Ganga Village, under the programme officers Joram Muthu and Dr. T Tatak. During the programme, NSS volunteers restored dilapidated roads, drain and planted large number of sapling of Nahar and Jatropha. The awareness on HIV/AIDS was also conducted during the day.

                   

Deed celebrates Women’s Day in style

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Women of Pistana circle in Lower Subansiri gathered at Deed at an impressive function to mark the International Women Day yesterday. An initiative of Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, Pistana Anchal Samity and district administration, the day witnessed coming together of people from all walks of life.

To mark the day, women achievers were felicitated which included social worker Bini Yanga, Oncologist Adisi Kri and gynecologist Dr Bengia Mala, chairperson of Nyishi Nyiem Achem Higio Aruni and Member Secretary Arunachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission Mamta Riba.

Minister UD and PWD Nabum Tuki who was the chief guest of the celebration said that equal rights were essential for equitable society. He further said that Panchayat leaders need to be more aware and responsible towards the development sector while adding that successful implementation of social schemes rest on the people of the area.

MLA and chairman APEDA Likha Saaya said that sharing of responsibility was necessary for a successful society and called on all to work for the society unconditionally.

Deputy Commissioner Lower Subansiri Sadhana Deori appealed all to work for the interest of the society and stressed on quality education. She further said that cooperation was needed to ensure development in the area. She also decried instances of child marriages.

Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Pistana Anchal samity Likha Api, the force behind the show said that day was an opportunity for all to come together to work for a united society. Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, Advisor Jaya Joram, co organizer of the programme while speaking on the Women’s reservation bill said that given an opportunity women are ready to bring in a change in political scenario of the state.

Social worker Bini Yanga said that cooperation of all was needed for a just society. She stressed on education of the girl child and putting an end to child marriages while Member Secretary APSWC Mamta Riba also said that with changing time it was important to let go certain practices prevailing in the society.

Dr Adisi Kri called for awareness to curve raising cases of cancer in the state while Dr Bengia Mala called on all to put in efforts to work towards a healthy society.

President of Lower Subansiri Zila Parishad Likha Tongum expressed the hope that 33% reservation of women in legislative and parliament would be a reality. He assured his help in celebrating the event in a bigger manner in future.

While responding to demands, Minister Tuki further assured creation of Circle headquarters in Deed, declaration of area as urban setting and pursuance of creation of Block Development Office. He further asked the concerned authority for recommendation for establishment of a Rural Bank in the area.

 

Health camp marks International Women Day

BOMDILA, Mar 9:  The West Kameng district administration in association with the medical unit of 5-Mtn Division Tenga, the district health department, department of ICDS and PHE & W/S and Women Welfare Center Bomdila organized a health camp  at remote village Subu for the people of the 17 villages under Thrizino circle to commemorate the 100th International Women’s Day yesterday.

The awareness on total sanitation campaign was also an objective of the programme.

Inaugurating the Health Camp, DC Swati Sharma underscored the importance of a good health and reiterated that it is high time to make a concerted effort and work as a team for the all round development of the society with special emphasis on health sector.

As the circle is located at a far-off place with various other communication bottlenecks, the circle has been rightly chosen for the camp in order to cater to the health related problems of the people where pneumonia, diahorrea, fever, ear and eye infection, malaria, asthma, typhoid and jaundice are common, she said. District coordination meeting reviews development works

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Upper Siang district deputy commissioner incharge Rajesh Panyang while reviewing the development activities of the district in a coordination meeting has urged the concerned departments and all the administrative officers to co-operate and streamline  the public distribution system so that needy people gets the PDS items in time.

Stating the steps being taken up, DFCSO informed that all efforts one being carried out for the purpose. The system will definitely improve in future, he added.

All the HOOs, Administrative office, Police personnel took part in the meeting.

Panyang, enquired about the irregular supply of power in Yingkiong and nearby areas as it is hampering the students who are appearing in their examinations.

The representative of the power department informed that due to break- down of the Jengging hydel, there is erratic power supply which is being repaired.

He instructed the PHE to repair the water connection of the Judicial Jail which gets blocked causing great problems to the inmates. He also wanted the department concerned to speed up the pace of construction of tourist lodge at Geku.

As the roads in the township were deteriorating, he asked the PWD department to prepare estimates. The service connection in the newly constructed buildings in the District Hospital has not been provided. He wanted it done at the earliest after completion of the formalities.

There is an urgent need of a letter box in D.C. Office complex, for which the in-charge D.C. requested the postal department to do the needful.

He also wanted that the cleanliness of Bazar and the township to be maintained and checking of stray animals has to carried out regularly.

As the incident of fire accidents are increasing, the filling of water by the fire brigade is a problem. The house wanted that a point of re-filling of fire brigade be installed in the township immediately.

Rajesh Panyang also informed that a team from Custom department will be coming to Upper Siang to destroy poppy cultivations and sought co-operation from all departments.

Dr. Kaling Dai, DMO informed the house that a free eye camp is going to be held at the District Hospital on March for which doctors will be coming from Itanagar and Pasighat and  appealed all to take advantage of the camp.

Tirap finalises annual work plan under SSA

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The annual work plan and budget for year 2010-11 of Tirap district under SSA has been finalized in the meeting of executive members held at Khonsa town on 8th of this month. While appreciating the annual work plan presented by SSA, Deputy Commissioner W. Lowang expressed concern over the below par performance of SSA teachers and asked the Panchayat leaders and VEC members to closely monitor their attendance.In his welcome address DDSE Tirap, informed that meeting has been called at short notice and threw light on activities of SSA in the district. Further he said that active participation of Panchayat leaders and all stakeholders in SSA programmes was of paramount importance to make it effective. DIPRO

 

Swearing in

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: A mass swearing of affidavits by members of sub clan of Ato Lobom to common surname Lobom shall be held at Kamba on March 17.

ADC Kamba, N Lollen and circle officer Vijay Tamuk would be the chief guest and gues of honour while Secretary of West Siang Gaon Burah Association Medam Ete would be the special guest.

 

Progressive farmer Bewang Lowang felicitated

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: A National felicitation Prog-ramme honoring farmers from across the country was organized on 26th of last month at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.  The function was graced by the Union Minister of Agriculture, Sharad Pawar and K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Agriculture.

In the function, 101 progressive farmers from different parts of the country were honored and felicitated in presence of the Union Ministers of Agriculture, and other dignitaries.

Bewang Lowang, Chief of Bera village is one of them who were felicitated at the National level for his successful endeavor in organic & scientific Agriculture practice. Bewang Lowang hailing from Bera village, Tirap District visited the nearby Agricultural Technology Management Agency, where, after a few interactions, he realized that organic farming hybrid vegetable and hybrid paddy growing was best suited to the relatively small and stony land holdings ubiquitous in the area. After his retirement from the CRPF he enrolled for training at ATMA in Khonsa. 38 eye patients benefitted

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Altogether 38 patients were operated upon for various eye ailments in an eye camp organized by Upper Subansiri District Blindness Control Society under national programme for control of blindness (NPCB) at Dumporijo Community Health Centre (CHC) from March 3 to 7 last.

Over 700 patients were registered in the camp and 36 were operated upon for cataract by using modern satureless method while  operations for  8 others were carried out for various eye ailments.

Dr. KK Deb, senior eye specialist and state programme officer NPCB and Dr. D Grayu, eye specialist, Ziro along with paramedical team from NPCB headquarter and Upper Subansiri district conducted the camp.

Upper Subansiri district medical officer (DMO) cum district programme manager of NPCB and Dumporijo EAC attended the inaugural function, according to DHS release.

 

Skill development programme

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: N N Charitable Society (NNCS) will organize a 30-day  skill development programme on Cane and Bamboo for three villages, namely, Ompuli, Laptap and langper from March 12 next.

The programme sponsored by the NABARD will be inaugurated at Ompuli. Around 75 trainees are expected to attend the said SDP training programme at three camps.

Toru circle officer is expected to attend the programme as chief guest where in the NABARD general manager, joint director of DIC Yupia, director KVIC, Itanagar, EO (credit) Sagalee, Doimukh SBI branch manager and Sagalee rural bank branch manager are attending the programme as resource persons.

 

Awareness camp on Commodity Trading

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: The NABARD in collaboration with National Youth Project of Arunachal Pradesh and SIRD, Itanagar will organize a one-day awareness camp on Commodity Trading and Marketing  on March 12 at SIRD conference hall, Itanagar.  Around 40 participants are expected in the camp from various sectors, according to a official release.

 

AAPSU demands change

ITANAGAR: All Arun-achal Pradesh Students Union has called for immediate revamping of workings of Arunachal Bhawan and Arunachal House in Delhi. Its president Takam Tatung said that instead of serving the needy, House and Bhawan is catering to the needs of VIPS and VVIPs only. He said that some rooms are being occupied for months together by ministers and MLAs depriving others while adding that such luxuries be immediately curtailed.  He further called for improvement in the services of the restaurants as many Delhites and visitors from outside the country visit the place.

 

Arunachal textile and Handicraft best at NE expo

ITANAGAR: Department of textile and handicrafts was presented  best exhibition (display) award at 7th North-East expo 2010 in New Delhi organized by the ministry of development of the North-East Region (DoNER) in collaboration with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC). H.K Handique, union minister for DoNER inaugurated the exhibition at NSIC exhibition ground on Feb 26th.

Handicraft, bamboo, handloom, cane furniture from all the eight states of region were showcased.

 

Film maker on Arunachal tour

ITANAGAR: Renowned Assamese film maker  Manju Borah during her week-long tour to Arunachal Pradesh has visited the  Siang Valley and upstream of Brahmaputra on March 8 & 9  in order  to explore  the prospects and potentiality for film  shooting and search   young local talents who can curve  a niche in film world.

Manju, who earned name and fame in national level, is  visiting the state under the guidance of Delong Padung, also a  film maker. She was overwhelmed with the hospitality accorded during her visit.

Besides discovering the scenic beauty of Arunachal Pradesh, her other objective is to  acquaint  herself with the culture  and tradition of the Arunachalee people and have a close interaction with them in order to promote the age-old bond between the people of Arunachal and Assam.

ITANAGAR: State level training cum meeting on House listing and housing census and preparation of National Population Register will be held on March 10 in Itanagar. The  programe will be inaugurated by the Chief Secretary.

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Yasho Ao Welfare Society has congratulated Nyumyom Sora, Sub Inspector, Arunachal Pradesh Police on being awarded the Silver Medal by the state govt for meritorious service extended to Arunachal Pradesh. Sora has accumulated 24 commendable certificates in as many service years.

Chairman of Doimukh Town Development and Grievances Forum has congratulated Kara Gambo, former chairperson of 1-Borum Anchal Samity on being appointed as Papum Pare NCP unit president.

 Former MLA Nani Ribia has congratulated Budi Habung and Nani Grayu on their selection as District and Sessions Judge. He expressed the hope that they would come up at par with the expectations of the people of the state and further called on the concerned authority to appoint those on waiting list as there are vacancies.

ITANAGAR, Mar 9: Dokum Colony Welfare Committee has appointed Bamang Tach as its president and Tai Taging as Vice President and Yarda Tayam as general secretary.

P D Jamchempa and Gandhi Sasusow have been appointed as president and vice president of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union, West Kameng unit. Kunsang Tsering would be the general secretary. The women’s wing will be led by Sumuti Sagro as president while T Nidu and T Yamo would be vice president and general secy respectively.
